Work and Research:
Paul has worked as a Buteyko Practitioner since 1994 and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Buteyko Institute. He has taught the method in Australia, the UK, Europe and Cuba and has also trained over 40 Buteyko Practitioners. He is the founder and director of Buteyko Health and Breathing in Melbourne. He has conducted hundreds of public lectures, been featured on national television and radio, in newspaper articles and published books. He has been involved in teaching on two Buteyko Institute Method (BIM) clinical trials - at Victoria University for the trial in 1999, and on the world's largest clinical trial of the BIM in Glasgow in 2001-2. With a background in science, education and business, Paul has previously worked in the corporate sector in a variety of management and training positions. Paul is a founding member and current trustee of the Buteyko Institute Trust (UK) which is raising money for further research. He is also acting on behalf of the BIBH in leading the initiative to establish a funding process in Australia, after organising (in conjunction with a major Victorian legal firm) for the BIBH to become a registered charity in Australia.
Personal Experience with Buteyko:
Having had asthma form the age of five, including hospital admissions as a teenager, Paul learnt the Buteyko Method for his own health in early 1994 and quickly achieved outstanding improvement. He then began supporting the work toward conducting the clinical trial of the method and the subsequent publication in a medical journal four years later (MJA 1998). Also in 1994 he trained as a Buteyko Practitioner under Alexander Stalmatski. As a senior practitioner of the Buteyko Institute, Paul later qualified as a Buteyko Practitioner Trainer, and then received advance training from Professor Buteyko in New Zealand in 2000. Paul is committed to improving community health and is aiming at having the Buteyko Institute Method as first line asthma management in Australia and throughout the world. Paul currently teaches the method to people suffering from asthma, hay fever, sinus, sleep apnoea, snoring, allergies, anxiety disorders and chronic fatigue syndrome.
